HOME UPDATE

BIRTHDAYS – This month of August had us celebrating one birthday for Edward. Everyone in the house participated in making it happy and joyful for him. His birthday was on the 15th.  Mama Jaenette our co-director also celebrated her birthday in this month and the kids also wished her well. Two of the house mothers also celebrated their birthdays, so it was an August full on happiness.

SCHOOLS- Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, schools were put on hold, and during the same period, the nation went to the polls. But before the elections our schools opened for our 7th and 9th. The rest of the grades started on August 23rd. It has been also stressful for the kids, especially the ones in examination classes, as they have little time to catch up and prepare for exams. Gertrude, one of the older children, is studying for her degree. Eustus went with one of the senior staff went to have a look at a suitable institution he was to go to in Lusaka. It was discovered that the institution is not credible. Other options are being explored to get him into college or university soon.

EXTRA ACTIVITY- The kids have continued bible sharing and have all participated well. Pastor Brian has taken over the Friday devotion and he gives the kids something new to look forward to. They have continued to follow up on the chores timetable and have been so helpful. They have also continued to work on their gardening.

HEALTH- Everyone is enjoying good health. Edward suffered a setback just after his birthday as he was diagnosed with mumps. He recovered well after medication. Edward is back to full health and Jane is fully recovered.

VISITATIONS- The children at Kwathu are just like another kid out there need to see their parents or relatives. But yet again, the blame is on their relatives that do not come to visit even when we try to call them. We hope after Covid 19 restrictions are lifted so that we can resume to House Visitations like we used to in the past.

CLINIC CONSTRUCTION- The clinic project is slowly but surely coming to completion. We are glad to report that the much-awaited electrical installation both at the modified container and the toilets have been done. The only works remaining are the window and door frames to be fitted and the doors and windows put. The rest will be to paint the toilets and put a nice floor in the container. We
are looking forward to the completion of this project for it will help many families around Kwathu with basic health care.

KWATHU SCHOOL REPORT:

In the month of August, Kwathu School has had different activities that have been happening. Since the closure of schools in June 2021, students have been away from school until the 5th of August when the examination class was giving a directive that they should open. The 7th grade class has been in school since that date, and they are happy of been in school. Preventive maintenance at the school has continued to run and this is the way in which the school has been kept clean. Students have come on board to do the cleaning and the school has always been clean.

Students during preventative maintenance

On August 23rd, the other grades that were not at school were told to come back. During the first week of learning, the students used to leave in the afternoon which is a half day because of covid 19 restrictions by the Ministry of Health.

Students learning in class

On August 30th, the students started having their lunch at the kitchen, which has really been a good thing for them. Therefore, the classes are back to the normal and scheduled plans are being followed. It has been a long season for all the students to have been out of school for such a long time. Now that schools are back to normal learning it’s time for serious business. Covid 19 health regulations and guidelines are being followed.
