Farming

Kwathu Ministries desires to launch a farming initiative in our efforts toward self-sustainability. The ministry currently spends a lot of money on meat, dairy, eggs, chickens, etc. Owning and raising our own livestock would greatly benefit the organization, saving on monthly food costs. 40kgs (88lb) of meat currently costs $150, however purchasing a cow would cost $180 once off. We currently spend over $300 on vegetables, dairy, eggs and chicken.  Having access to our own farm would help us reduce such expenses.

We need the following for us to get started:

  1. Build a chicken coop
  2. Build a pigery
  3. Donation for cattle, pigs, goats and chickens
    • 1 Cow =  K 1,800 ($180)
    • 1 Goat = K 600 ($60)
    • 1 Pig =    K 800 ($80)
    • 1 Chicken Layer = K80 ($8)

A light truck for transporting produce and stock feed to the farm is a great need. The farm is about 45 minutes drive from Kwathu Children’s Home.

All proceeds obtained from the farm will generate an income, moving us closer to our desire of self-sustainability.
