MAY UPDATE 2022

HOME UPDATE

BIRTHDAYS- Obet celebrated his 16th birthday on the May 3rd and he was given a gift voucher. Mapalo also celebrated her 12th birthday on the May 26th, and she had a mini-birthday party. The birthday boy and girl are grateful for turning a year older.

SCHOOLS- All children reported for school in great spirits. Most of toddlers did well in their end of term
exams with only a few still struggling. Our teens did well in their end of term exams apart from Purity, Linto and Austin, all had excuses of why they did not perform well. Austin was absent during most throughout the term due to illness. Most of them failed math and science. All of the students promised
to do better in their performance.

EXTRA ACTIVITY- Playtime: We have put up four swings and revamped the kids play park. Swinging is
more than just a fun activity for kids—it actually has many other benefits to their physical, emotional, social, and neurological development. Kids love to swing because it is fun and it feels like they are flying, but as they pump their legs and swing, their brains and bodies are making big progress.

VISITATIONS- The parents and relatives of the children are encouraged to keep the bond with the children here at Kwathu, as this makes it easy during reintegration when children have reached 18 years old. Unfortunately, that is not the case for most of the children. Some relatives make promises that they do not fulfil and their whereabouts are unknown. It is sad to report that no parent came through or made effort this month.

VOLUNTEERS- Kwathu Partner Grace Klein Community sent a team of seven volunteers at Kwathu for two
weeks. The team was amazing and full of hard work and passion for Jesus. It was great having them and they helped us with a lot of things at Kwathu home and the farm. They connected so well with Kwathu team and kids as well.

SPONSORS- In the month of May, we welcomed Angelina Root a member of TANDEKA from Germany.
Her main purpose of visitation was to check projects that are taking place Kwathu. Angelina came with gifts such as printed Kwathu gulf shirts and perfumes for every staff member to show her appreciation to the hard work and the dedication at Kwathu.

KWATHU SCHOOL REPORT- The month of May begins the second term of the calendar. During his month, the school was visited by the school standard officers in order to assess the school’s suitability for renewal of registration to operate for 2023.

In the same month, the provincial headquarters under the examination council of Zambia also visited the school to assess the strong room which was contracted to store examination materials and to give a go ahead of opening an examination center which will start operating next year 2023.

The children are happy to be back in school and they are filled with joy and happiness even as they come to school daily.

CLINIC PROJECT- The clinic is done and now only waiting upon the government to give us the license to operate.

FARM PROJECT- We have finished putting up our first fishpond and started our fish farming project
with 3,000 fingerings fish. The second fishpond is also done and just waiting for the plastic liner.
