BIRTHDAYS – In September, we had a wonderful time celebrating Prisca’s 8th birthday. It was such a joyous occasion filled with laughter, cake, and special memories. We were so happy to see her smile and celebrate another year of her amazing life!

HOME UPDATE
In September, our home was full of activities as we joyfully welcomed our children back from their holidays and started getting them ready for their third term at school. The school resumed their session on September 2nd, 2024. The following are the names of children who went out for holidays: Morgan, Jane, Michael, Mapalo, Dorothy, Nelia, Edwin, Rhodia and Alex.
Our children who went for holidays all returned safely and in good health. Those who stayed back also maintained good health; there were no sicknesses recorded besides minor conditions like headache and flu, which we managed to control within the home.
During September, we managed to do home assessment and reintegrated three of our children to their relatives namely Alex, Morgan and Edwin. This was done in accordance with government policy to unite families.

In September, we conducted assessments to evaluate the progress of the children we reintegrated. We were thrilled to discover that the children are thriving and attending school. During our interactions with the kids, we were delighted to see their happiness and that they are enjoying their stay. We are pleased to announce that all three children have been successfully reunited with their families.

OUTDOOR DINNER WITH THE KIDS
Our two volunteers, along with the staff, organized a delightful outdoor dinner for the kids at Kwathu Home. We took the children to one of the fast-food outlets in the city and treated them to a delicious meal. Witnessing the happiness on the children’s faces as they enjoyed their meal truly warmed our hearts.

KWATHU SCHOOL
In a welcoming and cheerful atmosphere, schools reopened on September 2nd. During the first week, classes were held from 8:00 to 12:30. As it was the initial week, students were dismissed at 12:30. Moving on to the second week, full school days commenced, with children engaged in learning from 08:00 to 3:30. Mornings were dedicated to engaging lessons, while afternoons were filled with opportunities for remedial sessions, club activities, sports, and rehearsals for upcoming events like the fun fair and pre-independence celebration.
Throughout the month, there have been many positive developments. Some students who excelled in their term two exams were recognized and rewarded with various school supplies like books, mathematical sets, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and snacks. This act of acknowledgment served as a great source of encouragement for all students. It is aimed at motivating learners to strive for excellence, with the hope that even those who may be struggling will be inspired to improve and earn recognition. The school is committed to continuing this practice of rewarding hard work each term.
On the other hand, the teachers have been unwavering in their dedication to nurture and educate every child. Their hard work and commitment to their profession are truly commendable.
In September, we launched a literacy program for children in our community who come from underprivileged backgrounds and cannot afford school uniforms. These children are currently not attending any school. At Kwathu, we recognized the importance of providing education to these children and ensuring they have access to their right to learn.
The literacy classes are held at our shelter, where our dedicated staff, volunteers, and administration team have committed their time to educate these incredible kids in our community.

Community Feeding Program
Our community feeding program has been ongoing this month, thanks to God’s grace. We have been consistently providing lunch for 25 households every Friday. We are truly grateful to God for ensuring that these vulnerable families have a meal to eat.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
We had a successful meeting in Senkobo Village of Mukuni Chiefdom with prominent community members, and it was so far productive and engaging. This meeting was part of our ongoing community outreach efforts to work together towards creating a more supportive and conducive environment for all community members. Our focus is on empowering men and women and ensuring that they have the resources and support needed to thrive in their community.

KWATHU CLINIC
The construction of the three consultation rooms for the clinic has been finished, with only the final touches left to be done. This includes installing the windowpanes, doors, and completing the painting. We are optimistic that everything will be completed by the end of October. Thank you for your patience and support!

KWATHU FARM
- The chickens on the farm are currently 24 days old, which is equivalent to 3 weeks and 3 days. Unfortunately, we have recorded 5 mortalities out of the 110 chickens we received initially.
- We are looking forward to harvesting the fish, hopefully by the end of this month.
- Our goats/sheep are currently at a count of 25, and we are hopeful that in a few months we will have more kids.
- In terms of field crop production, the tomatoes have started to bear fruits, as well as the watermelon, maize, and okra.
- We have recently harvested and sold the onions, with another batch expected to be ready for harvest in December.
- The okra plants have started to produce fruits/pods, and we are planning to plant another block of okra this week.
Challenges:
- Heat stress has resulted in water stress for most of our crops, especially affecting the tomatoes and maize, particularly in the hot afternoons.
- The water table is currently average, but we are managing to water the crops adequately.
- Our goat house is in poor condition and needs attention. We are hopeful that something can be done about it this week.

PRAISES:
We take a moment to appreciate and thank God for His abundant provision in meeting the needs on our list. We are truly blessed by His continued support in providing for our home supplies and necessities. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the provision of funds for the clinic project and for blessing us with resources to purchase a school bus and an off-road van.
Additionally, we celebrate the health and growth of all our children, knowing that God’s hand is upon them. And last but not least, we are thankful for the wonderful team behind Kwathu, whose dedication and hard work make all of this possible.
Praise be to God for His endless blessings and grace upon us!
