UPDATES
BIRTHDAYS – In October, Rhodia and Lackson’s birthday celebration was a delightful and heartwarming event. The gathering was filled with happiness, delicious cake, and cherished moments that will be remembered for years to come. Rhodia reached the milestone age of 20, while Lackson celebrated turning 10. Witnessing Rhodia’s beaming smile as she marked another year of her wonderful life brought us immense joy and gratitude.

HOME UPDATE
In the home, there are currently 22 children – 12 girls and 10 boys. The youngest child is 8 years old and the oldest is 23 years old. 21 of the children are enrolled in school, while one is still waiting to be enrolled. In terms of health, all the children are physically well and healthy. So far, 20 children have celebrated their birthdays this year, with only one child still waiting for their special day to come.
FEEDING PROGRAM
The feeding program at Kwathu School and the community continued in the month of October to provide lunch for pupils and households in need. Lunch is served Monday to Friday for pupils who may come to school hungry. Additionally, 20 struggling households are provided with lunch every Friday, benefiting a total of 100 individuals. This initiative aims to ensure nutritious meals for those who are unable to provide for themselves.

KWATHU SCHOOL
On 4th October, teachers celebrated Teachers Day, while on 23rd October, pre-independence celebrations were held. Zambia celebrated its independence on the 24th of October. The National Grade Seven Examination was conducted from 28th October to 1st October and was completed successfully.

PROJECTS
KWATHU CLINIC
The construction of three consultation rooms for the clinic is almost complete, with only the painting and fitting of doors remaining. The project is expected to be finished by the end of the month. Once finished, inspectors from the government will be invited to check the rooms for approval.
KWATHU FARM
- Goats/ sheep house: The number is still the same at 3 sheep’s and 22 goats (12 young and 10 older). The project to rehabilitate the house has started and starting this week, we should kick start the project. As we are racing against rains, our aim is to make it large in size to accommodate other set of animals coming for the next project.
- Chicken project: This was batch 4 we had, from 110 we lost 15 due to high temperature. We sold 95 chickens in total; this coming week will be stocking batch 5 hopefully to increase the stock and will be focusing on targeting festival periods where there is high demand for chickens.
- Fish project: We have been harvesting fish and now we are selling them. We are hoping to we stock another set in December as we are filling the fishponds with water. We harvested about 159.912 Kgs. The fish harvest was not very good because our fish had static growth. The duration of fish growth is 6 months, but our fish were very small when they reached 6 months, which resulted to increase the months of feeding to another 4 months. However, their growth did not change.
- Vegetable/ crops project: So far, okra is being sold and we just planted another set which is 3 weeks old; another set will be planted at the end of this month/early November.
- We have also harvested tomatoes which are now being sold. In October, the tomatoes and maize were heavily affected with heat stress, but we have still managed to harvest some produce.
- We are now preparing seedlings for tomatoes and planting of rain maize.
SCHOOL PROJECT
The school building project is progressing well, with the focus currently on plastering and installing window frames. The electrical work is nearly complete, along with the plastering. Next, the team will move on to the floors, doors, class panes, ceiling, and painting to finish off the project.
PLAYPARK
In late October, we began the process of renovating the kids’ play park. We closed it temporarily and we are installing new swings and exciting games to create a more enjoyable experience for the children. We strongly support the idea that play is essential for a child’s development, as they learn best through play.
PRAISES:
We take a moment to appreciate and thank God for His abundant provision in meeting the needs on our list. We are truly blessed by His continued support in providing for our home supplies and necessities. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the provision of funds for the clinic project and for blessing us with resources to purchase a school bus and an off-road van.
Additionally, we celebrate the health and growth of all our children, knowing that God’s hand is upon them. And last but not least, we are thankful for the wonderful team behind Kwathu, whose dedication and hard work make all of this possible.
