November 2020 Newsletter

BIRTHDAYS – On November 1, 2020 we celebrated Chrispin’s 4th birthday. It was a great joy to celebrate this special day with the other children.

SCHOOLS – Schools are still in progress and Eustus, Gertrude, Obet, Rosaria, Purity and Rhodia are in the final weeks of preparing for their examinations. The rest of the children in non-examination classes have also continued with academic lessons and mid-term assessments.

CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS – the festival season is just around the corner and the children have started their preparations of activities for the Christmas party. This is a time to spend together to share love and lots of laughter.

SKILLS TRAINING – Having learnt farming skills, Willard was given an opportunity to rear broiler chickens as an empowerment program. This was a way of seeing how he would manage when he is reintegrated into independent living.

SCHOOL REPORT – Kwathu School has had a lot of activities that has been keeping it run smoothly. One of the on-going activities is learning. In the month of November, the school staff teachers have been making sure that the learners get their right to education by providing them with the quality education that every child in the society deserves.

On the 13th of November the examination class, who are the grade sevens, had an educational tour to the Livingstone Museum and the mighty Victoria falls. On this day the learners had a great time. The purpose of this tour was for them to have an experience of learning from outside the classroom environment. It was an exciting tour to them as it was the first time that some of them visited the falls and the museum.

In the same month of November, the learners began to write their end of term test.  This was to have an overview assessment on how they performed for the whole term. Regardless of the corona virus which affected a lot of people, the learners in the school have been consistent and eager to learn.

DONATIONS – This month of November we received some donations from someone within the community who was celebrating their birthday.

Shoprite-Livingstone as well gave us some perishable food items which we are thankful for.

CLINIC PROJECT – This project is slowly taking shape. In the previous update we made mention of the advice given to put up toilets for communality and the staff. The construction of the toilets has commenced. We are committed to the completion of this project so that the clinic can start operating.

COMMUNITY FEEDING PROGRAM – Kwathu community feeding program has been a blessing to many families. Week in week out we continued to see families coming to our children’s Home to come have a meal. In the month under review we had our last feeding program for this year. This is not easy for most families, yet we have to bring it to a close. Many thanks to our supporters who have shown commitment in providing a meal to these less privileged members of our society. In the year coming we look to partner with many others who want to make a difference in the lives of those who are economically disadvantaged.

KWHATU FARM (ZIMBA PROJECT) – After about two years of trying to get land for us to do some farming finally the Zimba Council has given us. It’s a small holding hundred by hundred-piece land. Zimba district is about 70 kilometers as one heads out to Lusaka from Livingstone. This land is particularly important to us because it will help us with time to be self-sustaining. Our goal is do farming as a business by growing vegetables for both consumption and for sell. We wish to venture into poultry, piggery, and goat rearing. Our aim is to brand the products and sell them so that we can generate income to carryout our mandate as a ministry. We are aware that not all our children especially in the home will be academic. We are hoping that this farm will offer them an opportunity to learn farming as skill and through this they can be empowered with this knowledge which will give them the ability to sustain themselves even in the long run. We wish to make an appeal to those who wish to partner with us in making this dream a reality by getting in touch with us to see what can be done to have the Kwathu Farm up and running. At the moment there is nothing on the land only beacons.
