JULY 2024 UPDATE

HOME UPDATE:

BIRTHDAYS – In the month of July, we were delighted to welcome Eustus back from school. Eustus, our eldest son at Kwathu Home, is currently studying economics at a university in Lusaka. During his break in July, he visited us at the home, and we joyously celebrated his 23rd birthday on the 14th of that month. Eustus is a tremendous blessing to Kwathu, and his presence not only brings us immense joy but also invaluable help with various tasks around the home.

EUSTUS – 23 YEARS

KWATHU HOME – The Home provided various activities for children to engage in. After completing their school day, the children returned home to unwind by watching television and completing their homework under the guidance of the house mothers and volunteers. The children generally experience good health, with occasional cases of common illnesses such as colds and flu, which are promptly addressed with medications to ensure the children recover swiftly and resume their daily
activities.

KWATHU SCHOOL – The school term went by so fast. The month of July was so busy for Kwathu School, and many activities took place at the school. The pupils started writing their end-of-term exam on 29th July, and they will finish on the 2nd of August. These exams are very important for the school because this is where we track their progress.

SCHOOL P.T.A MEETING – The school recently had a successful Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to keep parents informed about school operations, upcoming events, and any concerns related to pupils. By fostering a strong connection between educators and parents, the meeting aimed to enhance the learning environment for students and ensure the best possible outcomes for them.

COMMUNITY FEEDING PROGRAM- The feeding program, which offers free lunch, continued in the month of July. The program serves 25 households, consisting of a total of 100 individuals in the community. Our commitment is to ensure the well-being and nourishment of these individuals. The distribution of meals occurs every Friday.

SCHOOL TOUR- The school organized an educational tour at the airport, providing pupils with the opportunity to gain insights into its operations. This engaging and informative experience was both enjoyable and enriching for our students.

CIVILIAN DAY- The school had a fun event called Civilian Day, where the kids dressed up in outfits inspired by the oldies theme. It was a delightful sight to see the children engaged in learning while dressed in their retro attire.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM – On the 28th of July, we bid farewell to two of our fantastic volunteers, Therese and Kristine. They dedicated 3 weeks and 4 days of their time to volunteering with us at Kwathu. We are truly grateful for their valuable contribution and the positive impact they made during their time with us.

Below is a picture of Therese and Kristine.

VISTITORS/PARTNERSHIP- The team from Radisson Blu hotel visited Kwathu Farm in July, expressing their interest in partnering with us. Radisson Blu hotel is a prestigious five-star hotel located in the heart of Livingstone. They were impressed by the progress at our farm and are enthusiastic about the potential collaboration opportunities ahead. We are excited about the prospect of working together with such a renowned establishment and are eager to explore the possibilities that this partnership could bring. We are praying this partnership goes through.

WECOMING OUR DIRECTORS BACK TO ZAMBIA- In the past month, we were delighted to welcome our directors back to Zambia. It was truly wonderful to have our directors here in person to witness the progress of the projects we have been diligently working on. Additionally, it was a joyous reunion with Mrs. Phiri after a prolonged absence. Her last visit was three years ago, and her presence on site was invaluable as she shared fresh ideas to further the growth of our organization.

SOLAR GRID- In a delightful turn of events, in the month of July, we were able to successfully install a solar grid system at Kwathu! Previously, power cuts lasting up to 12 hours were significantly hampering our day-to-day operations due to Zambia’s energy crisis. Thanks to the divine intervention, we now have a reliable power source that ensures uninterrupted electricity throughout the day. This wonderful upgrade has significantly improved our operations at Kwathu!

After solar grid was installed
