MAY UPDATE

EDUCATION

jpg (3)After having such a wonderful time on Holiday, our Children reported back to School on 5th May, 2014 for the second term. Most interesting, little David has now started school and he is in Nursery. We are so proud of these dear Children as their school performance for the previous term was remarkable. We are hopeful that those who did not do very well last term will work extra hard this term.

WELFARE

This month we’d like to take the opportunity of introducing our staff to you and share, in brief, just a little bit about who they are and what their current goals are. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our staff members for their hard work and dedication. We love and appreciate them all, and we thank Father God for bringing each and every one of them along our path.

Aunty Melody started working for Kwathu Children’s Home on the 30th of September 2013, as a house keeper. Melody has two beautiful daughters named Carren (19 years) and Rose (12 years). Carren is currently in Namibia perusing her dream of becoming a Lawyer, and Rose is in Grade 8 at Ngwenya Community School.Aunty Melody & Mama Josephine jpg

In 2004 Melody completed a 6 month course in tailoring, tie dyeing and knitting through YCTC (Youth Community Training Centre) here in Livingstone, and she certainly has a gift for tailoring.

Unfortunately,Melody had to stop school in the 8th Grade as a youngster. However, she never gave up perusing to complete school. In 2011 Melody enrolled in a night school at Namatama Basic School in order to complete her schooling. Melody is currently in the 12th Grade and will be graduating at the end of 2014.

Mama Josephine started working at Kwathu Children’s Home from the 31st of October 2010, as a house mother. Josephine is a true mother at heart and such a loyal, servant hearted mama. She has been serving at Kwathu Children’s Home for 3 and a half years now, and she has been a true blessing to us. Both Mama Josephine and Aunty Melody come from the same community, where majority of the homes are incomplete and  lack water and electricity.

They both have the same goal of completing their homes. Over the past few years we have been able to assist Josephine to reach a number of her goals in respect of her house. However, there is still much to do.

Melody’s current house needs/goals are:

1. Electricity

2. Water / Pipes / Plumbing

3. 4 x Windows

4. Plastering of the walls

5. Flooring

6. Building an extra room onto the house

Mama Josephine’s current house needs are:

1. 4 x Windows

Natalie Spronk – Volunteer & Allan Shoma – Staff Member

Natalie is a South African volunteer here at Kwathu Children’s Home. She visited Kwathu in June/July of 2012 and 2013 through Global Challenge Expeditions, and began volunteering full time at Kwathu in October of 2013.

In 2013 Allan successfully completed the LXP (Leadership Experience Program) in Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa, and returned to Zambia in December 2013. He began working for Kwathu Children’s Home in January 2014, Eversince, he has been of great assistance in respect of the progress of the new building.

Natalie and Allan have both been invited by our partner organization  Grace Klein Community, jpg (10)to share the heart and vision of Kwathu Children’s Home with various groups, churches, schools and colleges in Birmingham Alabama from October to December 2014. This will be done in hopes to build relationships, create further connections, and raise further funding for the children’s home.

Their current goal is to raise enough funding before October 2014 for return flights to Birmingham, Alabama.

Kindly pray with them for open doors in America to share their testimonies and the heart of Kwathu and in turn raise further funding for Kwathu Children’s Home.

LAND UPDATE

In the course of May a lot of work at the building site has continued to progress. Mr. Agrippa Phiri Director at Kwathu Children`s Home alongside Allan (Kwathu staff), peter and Emmanuel who are on Kwathu Sponsorship have also been working very hard to ensure that work is done effectively.

To begin with, work on the small House is very impressive. The plumbing system is in progress as all the required pipes have been installed and some pipes are still being fixed.

IMG_0383Next, the plumbing system at the Small house is mainly being done by Peter who is also currently studying at Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies in the same line of Work and he is working hand in hand with Emmanuel. Water pipes have also been successfully installed and water is now accessible in the small house and water taps will be fixed next Month.

On the other Hand, Mr. Agrippa Phiri and Allan have also been working together in fitting floor tiles in the small house. Most of these works will be completed next month.jpgjpg (4)

In addition, Appron around the main Building has been completed, 3 main beautiful doors have been fitted and Window panes which were donated by a Local Company PG GLASS have also been successfully fitted.

Finally, we had a visiting team from Youth with a Mission from Cape Town who spent their time for about 2 days doing some community service at the Building site. We are so grateful for the Team.

All this progress has been made possible by the financial support of Tandeka.e.v Ausburg Germany.

Please continue praying with us on these requests:

  • Funding for a 16 seater Bus (preferably Diesel) that would help us transport our children to and from school, as well as for the use of administration purposes.
  • Pray with us for financial support for the remaining stages on the house (Plumbing, flooring, painting, the ceiling and the doors)
  • Continue praying for courage, faith and understanding that we can accomplish the goals we set for Kwathu and that the children can live, grow and mature in Gods daily goodness and loving kindness.

Psalm 127:3 “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward.

We thank you all for your continued love and support towards Kwathu Children’s Home and may the Lord continue to bless you!
