January 2017 Update…!!!

Social.

Purity celebrated her 13th  birthday on 20 January 2017, we are happy as Kwathu to see her slowly growing up into a God fearing and respectful young lady. She has been with us for the past 9 years now and it’s so amazing to see that she is enjoying her stay with us. Her day was characterized of the cutting of the cake, birthday gifts presentation and later in the day she was taken out for a drink with her brothers and sisters. Happy Birthday Purity!!!!!!

Education

Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world. Schools have now reopened after a 4 week break. All our Kwathu Children passed their end of year tests and have succefully qualified to go into their next grades. They are all excited about being in a new grades and have promised to work extra hard this year. Besides, we have four of our Children who will be sitting for exams at the end of the academic calender.Three will be sitting for grade nine exams and we have one who will be sitting for grade seven exams and we pray that God to gives them the wisdom they need as they prepare for their exams. We continue thanking our friends and faithful partners who have continued supporting our children in ensuring that they can achieve their goals.

Support

We are so happy and thankful to everyone who has continued being a blessing and paying a significant role in making life better for our children. We were blessed to have Pure from China who came to visit us for two weeks. She spent most of her time interacting with the children, helping out with the feeding program, homeless feeding, arts club, etc. Thank you Pure and friends who donated 50 kg of beans, etc. for the first start of the feeding program 2017.

We are also grateful for Jess from Australia who interacted with the Kwathu children and helped so much with the opening preparations of the Kwathu Free Haven Community School. She also supported the construction of the outside kitchen which will be used for preparing meals for the feeding program.

Staff

We would like to welcome Situmbeko as our new Assistant Administrator. He is our first male Administrator so this will be a great opportunity for our male children to interact freely with him as ‘boys’. He will also help the Children and Mama’s with their computer studies and skills, as he is an I.T Specialist. Thank you for your desire to work for Kwathu home!

Community Development

 (Kwathu Free Haven School)

We reached out to our community around us and identified those who are struggling and we decided to help them educate their children, therefore, we are proud to announce the successful opening of the Kwathu Free Haven Community School which opened on 16th January. Moreover, our primary target are the Care Takers Children around our Kwathu Community who have little or no sufficient income to meet the daily basic needs of their Children. We are so thankful to Mr and Mrs Phiri “Kwathu Directors” who opened up their place for the construction of the Community School and many thanks too, to Samantha an American volunteer for her warm passion of serving the local children with a wonderful gift of empowering them with Education and to East Point Church from America for offering support in fundraising for the school building. We believe that the lives of these Children will never be the same again, to God be the Glory.

Highlands Creative Academy School

Highlands Creative Academy School is another Primary School within Livingstone we are partnering with since January 2017. We are sponsoring extra children who were not accepted at Kwathu Free Haven School because of lack of space. We are delighted about the future of these 18 children and wishing them a great start in school. We are looking for school sponsorship for these children. If you feel the need to help giving these children  quality education please contact us.

Tailoring Program

We have started a tailoring program to help the members of our community gain some skill and hence forth provide them an opportunity to engage into entrepreneurship for self sustainability.

Feeding Program.

As we mentioned last year, we have successfully started our daily feeding program that runs

from Monday through to Thursday. We feed approximately 250 children and adults per day. This initiative was started in the hope to share a meal with the less privileged who cannot afford 3 meals a day. All the children attending our community school have the privilege to have breakfast and lunch provided.
