KWATHU HOME
THE PHIRI’S
This month we said goodbye to the Phiri family. Hear from the hearts of the Phiri Family regarding the transition:
“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.” –
Ecclesiastes 3:1
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”
– Helen Keller
“Kwathu is our home. And it will always be. Due to private reasons, we, Jeanette and Agrippa, feel called to move to Germany. It was the hardest decision we ever had to make. However, even though Germany seems far away from Zambia, everything at Kwathu will remain the same. The children’s home will continue to be a safe haven for all children, Mamas, Aunties and Uncles. Also, nothing will change at the Kwathu Free Haven Community School, all 220 pupils will still receive free education and two meals a day. We will regularly go back to Zambia and make sure that everything is working fine.
Moreover, we guarantee that Kwathu, with all its projects, will keep on running and that our ministry will continue in a sustainable way.
We want to thank everyone who has and continues to support Kwathu over the years. We thank you for all your love, energy, support and time. Moreover, we want to thank all of our employees and children who have become our family. We love you all!
Although we will not physically be in Zambia the whole time anymore, it is important for us that everyone at Kwathu and its community can meet their basic needs and live a carefree life. We pray for the health of everyone and that all your dreams come true. May all of you find true happiness, love and freedom in Jesus’ name.
Even though we cannot be seen in person, our hearts will always be with our beloved ones, our Zambian family.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
God bless you all!”
Farewell Braai/ Barbeque for the Phiri’s
We had a farewell barbeque just for the Phiri Family to share a light moment with the rest of the team members. The event was fully packed with dances, songs, jokes and speeches. It was indeed a beautiful send off by the members of staff. It was quite emotional for Mama Jeanette as she listened to all the lovely things people had to say to her. She has been with Kwathu for the past 11 years and seen the ministry grow into what it is today. As for the other staff, we shall greatly miss her presence. We look forward to her next visit to Zambia.
VISITORS / VOLUNTEERS
Kwathu would like to welcome the following volunteers:
17th June |The Fisher Family:
We are so excited about the arrival of the Fisher family from Australia. We can only thank God for the traveling mercies. We feel so blessed to have them come by and spend some time with us. The past few weeks they have been here, they have been involved in lots of activities around Kwathu. Papa Don has been involved with installing the ceiling boards at the community school, while Mama Sue has been actively involved with the feeding program, shopping and general household chores. She also helped paint the ceiling board in the classrooms. Breanna has been helping out at the community school as an assistant teacher. She was also involved in painting the ceiling. Monique has assisted with various activities with the toddlers, which include recreation as well as helping them with their homework.
23rd June | Project One Eight, South Africa:
We had a fun filled week with the Project One Eight team from South Africa. These guys are so amazing and hard working. The zeal and creativity in each one of them is so inspiring.
The guys worked so hard with Papa Don last week to install ceiling boards in 3 classrooms while the ladies were classroom assistants helping the children with their school work.
Sadly their visit had to come to an end yesterday and they had to return back to South Africa. We are so grateful for their sacrifice, kindness and willingness to get involved with any duty during their period of service.
We are short of words to appreciate you guys, all we can say is may God reward you abundantly. We love you and we can’t wait to see you again. You are now part of Kwathu’s big family.
Kaila and the Team:
Kaila arrived with a group of teachers from the USA. They first visited Macha International school in Choma where they spent a week teaching before they came down to Livingstone/Kwathu to host a teachers conference at Kwathu Free Haven School. The conference’s main objective was to share and learn new strategies and skills for teaching, reading and math. There were also sessions on managing behaviors. There were a total of 48 teachers from different schools around Livingstone.
Aileen:
We would like to welcome Aileen from Bad Lauterberg, Germany to Kwathu Children’s Home. It is a great pleasure to be with you for the next few weeks.
Global Challenge Team:
We would like to welcome Global Challenge team from South Africa. They will be with us for a few days. We wish them a happy stay.
Gilford , Janet and Inonge
It is a blessing to have some local volunteers who dedicate their time to come serve at our ministry.
Gilford, Janet & Inonge have devoted two months to serve Kwathu. Gilford is offering computer lessons while Janet is offering art lessons. Inonge is helping Tr. Adess with the Pre-School.
We welcome you guys to Kwathu and please enjoy your work.
Stay blessed.
DONATIONS
The Fisher family & Friends:
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated assorted items through the Fisher Family. We have received your kind donation with so much happiness and appreciation. We wish you all God’s blessings and favor. These items will go a long way in serving the children.
Proverbs 11:25
‘A generous person will prosper;
whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.’
Thank you so much
Philip & Ramona:
Ramona and Philip helped us at the Kwathu Children’s Home last year and spent a great time in Zambia. This year they sent a package to Africa and through a donation we could buy tables and chairs for our preschool.
Thanks for your support!!
Aileen:
Special thanks to Man Dy (Aileen’s Mother) for the school supplies. We are really grateful.
FUNDRAISING EVENT
Last Saturday, Kwathu organized a boat trip, where 100% of funds received was directed toward Kwathu projects, especially Free Haven School.
The event was a great success! In bright sunshine, all participants not only enjoyed the ride on the Zambezi, but also enjoyed the beauty of seeing animals such as hippos, zebras and elephants. And this, all for a good cause!
We would like to thank all our supporters and helpers without which this event would have been so successful. Thanks also to all participants for your support.
Special thanks goes to David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spar. We really appreciate your love and willingness in allowing us to use your boat for fundraising purposes.
CONSTRUCTION
Kwathu Free Haven School has in the past few weeks seen some facelift. Papa Don and a number of other volunteers have been installing the ceiling in all classrooms. We are happy to announce that all the classrooms have been fitted with ceiling boards. In the next few days, all the remaining rooms will have ceiling boards too.
Thank you so much Papa Don, Mama Sue, Breanna, Monique, Project One Eight SA, and Global Challenge SA, for all your efforts and hard work towards the installation of the ceiling. And a special thank you to everyone who contributed towards this project. We cannot thank you enough for your contribution. Indeed without your kind hearts it would have been impossible to accomplish this project.
