Teachers Day
Teacher’s day in Zambia is about celebrating the efforts of our teachers in our education system. This day teachers are rewarded and appreciated. As Kwathu, we appreciate the efforts our teachers are putting in to teach and raise the standard of education for the vulnerable children. Our teacher are well qualified, dedicated and have a heart for the vulnerable children.
What will liberate an African Child?
A good solid education for an African child is one of the powerful keys to unlock a successful and bright future. Our first ever Grade 7 class at our school ready to start their major exams and the Director was there to encourage hard-work, discipline and pray for them.
Birthdays
Raising orphaned and vulnerable children is not an easy job as most of the children come to Kwathu with unpleasant and impoverished condition. Our job at Kwathu is to try and turn that condition for good and introduce a quality of life for our children.
This is Lackson one of our toddlers who turned 5 years old. This was his second birthday celebration being at Kwathu and he is looking forward to this every time. You should see the joy on this boy’s face is so melting.
Our young lady Rodiah also celebrated her 15th birthday and it was her 3rd birthday celebration at Kwathu. At 13 years old, this beautiful girls was about to be married off but Kwathu and the District social welfare intervened and rescued her from being a victim of early marriage. She is intelligent, focused and now doing grade 6.
Donations in Kind
Kwathu Home being a charity, we appreciate any kind of donation that pours in as it helps sustain our mission and help execute our objectives. Apart from international contributions, we highly appreciate local involvement in our efforts. We are grateful to Zambia Revenue Authority for this donation in kind. Lately, our staple food prices have doubled in price due to poor crop harvest last two years. Southern Africa was hit by severe drought connected to effects of global warming and climate change. Thanks to Tandeka and Zambia Revenue Authority for food donations.
ELECTRICITY
Electricity is the heartbeat of many business entities in Zambia and almost everything depends on it.This is now a crisis countrywide such that even the government has no solution to it. Businesses such are hair salons, barbershops, milling companies, huge factories like block making, welding and many manufacturers including hospitals, hotels and restaurants, to mention but few have crumbled down. The effects are too numerous to mitigate and Kwathu has equally not been spared.
Variety show
Our pupils showcase different talents and skills including eating and dancing competition as seen in these pictures below in this variety show.
Bereavement
On the sad note: For those of you who visited Kwathu a few years ago you will definitely remember our always-jovial Josephine, commonly known as “mama J”. Mama J retired at Kwathu in 2016 but she was always our favourite mama. May her soul rest in eternal peace as she will be greatly missed.
Status of Kwathu School
The third term of the school has been such a blessing, the enrolment is two hundred and thirty four (234), boys are one hundred and twenty (120) and girls are one hundred and fourteen (114). Our grade 7s completed their national examinations on 18 Nov 2019. It is a great joy that the school has been approved by the government under the ministry of education to operate for 2020.
Zambia at 55th independence
Zambia turned 55 of its country’s independence. It is a pity though to note that we as a country are still facing numerous challenges of which we at Kwathu children’s home are not an exception. These include; lack of electricity, water, high cost of mealie meal (Nshima) which is a staple food for Zambians.
