July 2019 Newsletter

Issue: 7/2019| Published by: Situmbeko Sitondo

On the 7th of July we welcomed Mama Jeanette, Jerome & Vicky back home. We were so excited about their visit. It has been exactly one year since mama Jeanette relocated to Germany with the children. This was their first visit after a year. Jeanette came to check on how the project has been running since she left. It was so exciting to see her back to her second home Zambia.

On the same day, we received Sarah who was also visiting us from German. It was her first time and Zambia and we warmly welcome you to Zambia and we wish you a pleasant stay.

Kwathu Activities:

Kwathu Home saw a few face lifts in the month of July. Andrew Elliot visited us for the very first time in Zambia after hearing so much about Kwathu from his wife Kaila who has visited Kwathu a number of times.

During his stay, Andrew was able to build a shelves and renovate the children’s library in one of the rooms in the house. The purpose for this room is for the children to use as their reading room and where they can study and do their homework in a more quiet and conducive place.

Thank you so much Andrew!!! You are the best!!

We had an amazing three weeks with Kith who was visiting us from Denmark. This was her third time coming to Zambia and she has built a very strong bond with the children and staff here at Kwathu. We are so glad that she has made Kwathu her second Home.

During her stay, she took the children for a movie at the new Cinema, went shopping with the girls, played with the toddlers and helped with some administration work. Her selflessness cannot go unnoticed.

She has since left back for Denmark and hopefully she will be back soon. Thank you for coming & we love you Aunt Kith.

We were so privileged to have Sarah help out with the projects here at Kwathu. Even though it was her first time here in Zambia, she settled in well and was mostly working with the mama’s at the feeding program. She helped prepare meals and serve the children. Apart from that she mingled a lot with the toddlers. We are so happy that she could spare some time to come and serve at Kwathu Children’s home. We wish her well as she has returned back to Germany. We love you so much.

It had been a busy holiday for Jeannette the Director of Kwathu Children’s Home who came back from Germany to come and check up on the Kwathu project.

Since July, Jeanette the Director of Kwathu Children’s Home had been busy checking on the projects around Kwathu. Not only does she ask about the state of the numerous projects, but also helps participate in taking care of everything.

When asked about her first impressions: what is it like to be back in Zambia?

Jeanette:’ After a year in Germany, I couldn’t wait to finally touch African soil again. Being back in Zambia is like a dream come true: the brown sand, the children, everywhere friendly faces, the Victoria Falls and of course our precious work .I even missed the mosquitos! She jokingly says.’

And how does it feel to be at Kwathu again?

Jeanette: ‘Kwathu Children’s Home has been in existence since 2005. In the first days of my arrival, I always felt the feeling of gratitude. Grateful to be able to help, grateful to be able to make a sustainable difference, grateful to all supporters, helpers, teams, local and international volunteers I am so grateful for our employees and teachers on site, we are a great team! Kwathu’s work and service closest are so important and precious. In Zambia, education, having a home, protection and a regular meal mean so much more than in Germany. A lot of things that we take for granted in Germany are a privilege here. I would like to thank all of you who give our children a smile and open a door for their dreams.’

Jeanette has since returned to Germany after a month of visiting. We hope to have her back soon.

Examinations:

Since Kwathu School is now fully registered and recognized by the government through the Ministry of Education, we follow the standard Government’s syllabus, hence we are expected to execute the laid down academic activities. The second term of any Examination class is expected to write a Mock Examinations in order to give the pupils a feel of how the examination will be and also to test how ready they are for the final exams.

Our grade Seven (7) pupils were not left out in this exercise. All of our pupils were ready and of course nervous, however they all assured us to do their best and study hard for the subject they may not do well.

Donations:

Thank you so much Jerome and Pauline!

Jerome, the son of Kwathu’s Directors Agrippa and Jeanette, brought his own gifts to Zambia. When he successfully participated in a raffle at home, it was immediately clear to him that he would like to donate his prizes. We are super proud of Jerome! He’s a little hero who has his heart on the right spot.

In addition, we would like to thank Pauline. Jerome’s classroom has collected pencils for our Kwathu-kids. Thank you very much! Since it is not natural that 2.- grader are so selfless and collect gifts for other children in Z ambia, we are very proud of them. You guys are awesome!
