August 2017 Update

The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance. Birthdays are a good reminder of what God has given us. In fact, reminders are biblical; God commanded the Israelite’s to set up stones to remind them of what God has done for them (Joshua 4:1–7.) So we always take time to reflect and celebrate the life God has given us and what He has done for us since birth.

We celebrated a number of birthdays this month:

Mama Sharon: It gave us so much joy to celebrate the life of this precious lady. The hard work  and commitment to her job is so admirable. Seeing all her efforts to help raise these children truly calls for the celebration of her life. We also took this time to appreciate her and prayed over her. Enjoy your journey through life with God’s blessings Mama Sharon!

Uncle Situmbeko: Happy birthday to Uncle Situmbeko. This was his first birthday celebration with the Kwathu family. We really thank him for the work he is doing at Kwathu and may God continue using him to the service of His Kingdom

Mama Jeanette: Words can not describe Jeanette. “Iron Woman” would still be an understatement. We celebrated the birth of this hardworking, loving, caring and kind woman. Her passion to help the less fortunate inspires the hearts of many. It is indeed a blessing that we have people like her and we wish her continued blessings from the Father. May God grant you the desires of your heart.

Holiday Programs:

This August holiday has been packed with lots of activities. Mostly all activities involved giving back to the community

Samba Land: Every week some of the older boys went to Samba Land to help out with some of the daily activities. They watered the gardens and mended plant beds. We intentionally set up this activity to teach our young men to appreciate farmers and realize that this is also a very important field. The boys were inspired by the hard work and effort it takes to produce crops, and some now desire to become farmers and produce their own crops and livestock. Thank you Uncle Justine for allowing us to be on your farm and inspiring these young minds.

Old People’s Home:

Psalm 71:9 says: “Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent.”

We dedicated a few days to do some charity work at the Livingstone Old People’s Home. All the older children were involved in numerous activities e.g. cleaning the surrounding and interacted with some Grandma’s and Grandpa’s. We even played some games with them. Thanks to Yande, SîtümbëköLinda and Kith for helping organize the children during these visits.

Museum Visit: The children went out to visit the Livingstone Museum with Mama Jeanette. It is was good that the children learned important facts about our History.

Zambia Police: We dedicated a day to visit the Zambia Police Service with the older children. They were educated on various crimes and punishments given to certain offences. They learned about child abuse and their human rights as young children. It was a great experience because the children now know how to be law abiding citizens.

Donations:

Thank you to EVERYONE who contributed to the supplies sent to Kwathu Children’s Home through Grace Klein Community last month! The children were delighted and new mamas in the surrounding community were so blessed by the baby items included in the bins! We are always encouraged to know that we have your support despite the distance.

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8

Linda: Thank Linda for the donation toward Kwathu. The products you bought will surely take us a long way. Thank you for your kind heart and good thoughts towards these children. God Bless You.

Joyful Service: We are blessed to have Rebekah and Ashley visit us from Grace Klein Community, USA. Rebekah will be with us until next year while Ashley was with us for just a week. We pray and hope they enjoy their stay here as they both do God’s work.

We thank the good Lord for seeing us through this lovely month. May his name be praised.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” – 1 Chronicles 16:34
