January 2020 Newsletter

The number of children at the home has continued to increase. On the 7th of January, 2020, we received 4 additional children, 3 boys and 1 girl. The children are all related, but have different mothers. The reason why the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare brought them to Kwathu Ministries is because these children have rarely had care and have often been left alone at home to fend for themselves. The children are all settling in well and the 3 boys have since been enrolled to Kwathu Free Haven Community School. Welcome pals!!!

General welfare

On January 4, 2020, we warmly welcomed The Director of Kwathu Ministries, Mr. Phiri, back home from Germany. We are very happy to have him in Zambia, clearly evident by the smiles on the faces of staff and children from Kwathu who welcomed him at the airport. We know the family back home in Germany miss him so much.

SUCCESS STORY 1

Our boy, Linto Musipili, has made us so proud by making it through to Grade 8 with incredible results. We wish him success in his future endeavors.

Success Story 2

The school had its first Grade Seven (7) ever. We had a 100% pass rate. All the 19 Grade Seven students who wrote their junior examinations passed!

Schools opened on the 13th of January, 2020. So much excitement alongside changing of grades. Serious learning already going on.

Quarterly shopping for the house

Below are items for the home. They are to last for three months.

Feeding program

The Feeding program is such a strength of our ministry and we take joy in feeding this community.

Currently, the school feeding program is undergoing numerous challenges, almost to the shutdown following the death of our main sponsor, Heiko Held (may his soul rest in eternal peace) on January 10th, 2020. We are calling on well wishers to continue with the legacy he left.

Birthdays

In the month of January, we had two birthdays of our dear beautiful girls.

Purity is a very loving and caring girl but also inquisitive!! She just turned 16 and doing her 9th grade at St. Mary’s, which is one of the prestigious schools in Livingstone. We sang a happy birthday song to her alongside a gift of her choice.

Charity – smiley but shy. She just turned 15! She was so overwhelmed by the birthday songs sang to her and how everyone was happy about her day. A gift of her choice was also bought to beautify and spice up her day. She is now doing her 6th grade.
